Ukraine AND Palestine AND Syria AND Afghanistan AND Myanmar AND Chechnya

All peoples who need help deserve our support. This was the key message from the talks we gave at a recent fundraiser, as well as sharing how important it is for counsellors and psychotherapists to understand that the idea of neutrality is very often simply duplicating euro-centric ideas and values without question. Islam is so strong in its teachings about social justice and even if we cant achieve it in this world, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try, for our own hearts. At the fundraiser, some Ukrainians spoke so eloquently, about their fears that they would soon be forgotten, the world would move on, and they would still need help. I believe Allah helps everyone, and also gives us the capacity to extend our hands to those in need.

Those who spend their substance in the cause of Allah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, for them their reward is with their Lord; on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve. Kind words and the covering of faults are better than charity followed by injury.
